December brings a season of giving, reflection, and gratitude. At After Loss Advisors, we’re proud to participate in Colorado Gives Day, an annual statewide movement to celebrate and support non-profits that make a meaningful difference in our communities. This year, we are honored to donate to two exceptional organizations: HeartLight Center and Wish of a Lifetime from AARP.
What is Colorado Gives Day?
Colorado Gives Day is an annual, 24-hour event dedicated to encouraging philanthropy across the state. Hosted by Community First Foundation and powered by FirstBank, this year’s event takes place now through Tuesday, December 10th, 2024. It’s an opportunity for us to come together to support local non-profits working tirelessly to address a variety of community needs. Donations made through ColoradoGives.org on or before this day help these organizations benefit from a $1 million incentive fund, boosting the impact of every gift.
Why We’re Supporting HeartLight Center
The HeartLight Center is a beacon of hope and healing for individuals navigating grief and loss. Based in Aurora, Colorado, their mission is to provide affordable grief education, support, and community resources for those who have lost a loved one. Our founder is a volunteer with HeartLight and has seen firsthand the good they do for the community, both locally and nationally.
Who They Serve: HeartLight Center serves individuals, families, and professionals who work with grieving populations. Their programs are inclusive, welcoming all who are experiencing grief, regardless of the circumstances.
How They Serve: HeartLight Center offers a wide array of grief support groups, workshops, and educational programs, creating a safe space for individuals to process their loss and find a sense of connection. Their team of trained facilitators and peer-support groups provides understanding and guidance for people in all stages of grief. These are offered both in-person AND virtually (available for folks nationwide).
Grief can feel isolating, but HeartLight Center reminds us that we are never alone in the journey.
Why We’re Supporting Wish of a Lifetime from AARP
The Wish of a Lifetime program, part of AARP, uplifts older adults by granting life-enriching wishes and fostering meaningful connections. Their mission is to inspire a sense of purpose and combat social isolation among seniors.
Who They Serve: Wish of a Lifetime serves seniors aged 65 and older across the United States, with an emphasis on addressing loneliness and creating life-affirming moments.
How They Serve: The organization grants wishes that honor older adults’ legacies, such as reconnecting with loved ones, achieving lifelong dreams, or celebrating personal milestones. Each wish granted tells a powerful story of resilience, love, and community.
Through these experiences, Wish of a Lifetime restores hope, creates joy, and reminds us of the profound value of older generations.
